Balloon Modellers and Children’s Entertainers: Check Your Stock Following Safety Warnings

Entertainers who use balloons as part of their work are being advised to check their stock following recent product safety notices concerning several types of balloons sold through Temu.

The warnings may be particularly relevant to balloon modellers, children’s entertainers, party decorators and anyone who provides balloons at parties, family events or workshops.

The notices do not apply to all balloons. They relate to specific products, sellers and batch numbers. However, they are a useful reminder of why entertainers should retain packaging and purchasing information for the products they use.

Warning issued on 28 August 2026

On 28 August 2026, the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, CCPC, published a safety notice concerning 23-piece Colour Mixture Balloons sold by LELO Balloons through Temu.

The affected product details are:

  • Product: 23pcs Colour Mixture Balloons
  • Seller: LELO Balloons
  • Batch number: B20231007
  • Model number: XR0100
  • Temu Goods ID: 601101190128703
  • Number affected in Ireland: Approximately 50 products

The CCPC says the balloons pose a chemical risk because they contain excessive levels of N-nitrosamines and N-nitrosatable substances.

Children could be exposed through skin contact or by putting the balloons in their mouths, which may harm their health.

Anyone with the affected balloons should stop using them immediately and keep them out of the reach of children. Temu has contacted affected customers on behalf of the seller and assisted with the refund process.

Two other balloon products were identified earlier in August

This was not the only balloon safety notice published during August.

On 18 August 2026, the CCPC published a separate warning concerning two additional balloon products sold by third-party sellers through Temu:

35-piece Colour Mixture Balloons

  • Seller: Parker Balloons
  • Batch number: 2024222
  • Model number: XR0100
  • Temu Goods ID: 601099719396831
  • Affected units: 63

FobPatiy Balloons

  • Description: Black and gold balloons
  • Seller: Jacay Paty
  • Batch number: B20231007
  • Model number: KY-2401
  • Temu Goods ID: 601102578041922

These balloons were also found to pose a chemical risk because of excessive levels of N-nitrosamines and N-nitrosatable substances.

The CCPC advised consumers to stop using the affected products immediately and keep them away from children.

What entertainers should do now

If you use balloons as part of your business, check your stock against the product descriptions, sellers, batch numbers, model numbers and Temu Goods IDs listed above.

If you have an affected product:

  1. Stop using the balloons immediately.
  2. Keep them out of the reach of children.
  3. Do not give them to customers or use them to create balloon models or decorations.
  4. Check your Temu account and email for information about the safety notice and refund.
  5. Contact Temu if you believe you purchased an affected product but have not received information or a refund.

Do not rely on colour or appearance alone when checking your stock. Similar balloons may be sold by different sellers, so the product number, batch number and seller details are important.

Keep packaging and supplier records

Entertainers can purchase large quantities of balloons and other party supplies, sometimes months before they are used. Removing products from their original packaging can make it difficult to identify them if a safety warning is issued later.

Where possible, retain:

  • Original packaging
  • Product labels
  • Batch and model numbers
  • Supplier and seller information
  • Online order confirmations
  • Receipts and invoices
  • Screenshots or copies of the original product listing

If you separate products into smaller storage containers, consider labelling each container with the relevant supplier, purchase date and batch number.

These simple records can make it much easier to check whether your stock is affected by a recall or safety notice.

Take particular care with products used around children

Balloon modellers and children’s entertainers work in an environment where children may touch balloons, handle completed balloon models or put balloons near their mouths.

Although entertainers cannot personally test every product they purchase, they can take sensible precautions by buying from reputable suppliers, keeping purchasing records, checking product information and responding promptly to official safety notices.

A product being available through a well-known online marketplace does not automatically mean that every product sold by every third-party seller has met the required safety standards.

Check official safety notices regularly

The CCPC publishes recalls and product safety notices affecting products available in Ireland. Entertainers and other small businesses that regularly purchase balloons, toys, costumes, electrical equipment or children’s products may find it helpful to check these notices periodically.

A useful stock check for your business

These warnings apply to specific balloon products and should not cause unnecessary concern about every balloon in your stock.

However, if balloons form part of your entertainment service, now is a good time to check what you have, remove any affected products and make sure you can identify where your remaining stock came from.

A few minutes spent checking batch numbers and improving your stock records could help you respond much more quickly if another safety notice is issued in the future.
