Africa Day (19th May)

About Event:

Africa Day has been designated by the African Union as an annual celebration of the continent’s unity, which falls on 19th May each year.  Celebrations to mark the day occur across the globe: in some African states, it is a designated national holiday, while in diverse cities – such as New York, London, and Washington – academic gatherings and cultural showcases mark the day.

Africa Day Celebrations in Ireland:

Irish Aid at the Department of Foreign Affairs has been the driving force behind Africa Day celebrations in Ireland since 2006. This day celebrates Ireland’s links with Africa, a contemporary and modern continent with strong cultural and trade ties to Ireland. Honouring the richness and diversity of African cultures, the achievements, and the challenges of the African continent.
