Baltimore
The Baltimore Deep Sea Angling Festival, South West Ireland’s oldest sea angling competition, is noted for exciting fishing and an enjoyable social scene.
The popular fishing village of Baltimore, in the heart of the famous fishing grounds of West Cork, has played host to this annual event for nearly 50 years. The four day competition usually attracts around 60 anglers from Ireland and abroad. It is open to all and you can enter as an individual or part of a three-person team. The first day is devoted to a separate one day, tag-and-release shark fishing contest. This is followed by the main event – a three day, deep sea competition for fish like conger, ling, pollack, cod and common skate.
The festival is a conservation event with results determined on a points basis so fish not wanted for the table can be returned safely to the sea. Silverware and other valuable prizes are presented at a prize-giving dinner on the last night. You can enter for fewer days if you wish and compete for the daily cash prizes presented after fishing each day. The boats employed are all licensed and fully equipped charter boats with qualified and experienced skippers.
