1. What is IOMST, and what does it stand for?

IOMST, which originally referred to the Irish Organisation for Market and Street Traders as we were once known, is a membership organisation that supports a range of small businesses such as market/ event/ street traders, artists, crafters, artisan food producers, entertainers/ performers, tour guides, classes/ teachers, and more.

2. Who can become a member of IOMST?

Our membership is open a variety of small businesses such as market/event/street traders, artists, crafters, artisan food producers, entertainers, performers, tour guides, classes, teachers, and more. If you fall into any of these categories, you’re welcome to apply to join. T&CS apply

3. What services does IOMST provide to its members?

We provide a range of services including help and advice, insurance solutions, trading opportunities through our newsletter and more. Our goal is to support the growth and success of our members.

4. How do I become a member of IOMST?

You can become a member by visiting our website and completing the appropriate membership application form to confirm you meet our membership criteria. Once confirmed, we will then advise on the next steps. 

5. What are the benefits of being an IOMST member?

As a member, you gain access to exclusive insurance packages, trading opportunities, and help & support services relating to your business.

6. Do I need insurance for my business?

Many market organisers, event organisers, venues and property owners make public liability (and sometimes product liability) insurance a condition of trade for any business operating on their premises.

If you want to be protected against any claim for injury to a member of the public or damage to their property then you need public liability insurance.

7. Why is insurance important for my small business?

Insurance provides essential protection against unexpected events, accidents, or liabilities that could impact your business. It helps safeguard your financial well-being and gives you peace of mind. It also helps demonstrate that you are operating a well managed, professional business.

8. What insurance do I need to run my business?

Public liability insurance

If you are interacting with the public in any way, public liability will form the basis of the cover you require. This covers your liability for damage to property or injury to a third party that you or your business is deemed to have been responsible for.

Product liability insurance

If your business involves the sale/supply of any form of physical product, then you may also require products liability insurance. This operates in a similar manner to public liability however relates to injury or damage caused by a product you have supplied, generally beyond the point of purchase.

Employers’ liability insurance

If you/your business employs anyone, whether they be full time, casual employees, volunteers or even family members, once they are performing the role of an employee, then you may also need to consider employers’ liability insurance. This protects you/your business against any claim made by an employee for any injury or loss suffered by them during the course of them working for you.

9. What types of insurance solutions does IOMST offer?

Through our broker, we offer a number of insurance packages tailored to the specific needs of our membership categories. This includes public liability insurance, product liability insurance and employers liability insurance.

10. How can I get a quote for insurance through IOMST?

You can request a quote for insurance by completing the appropriate online application form. Our insurance partners can also provide further guidance on this process when you become a member.

11. How often does IOMST send out newsletters?

We send out regular e-newsletters to our members, typically on a weekly basis and also occasional one off notices when the need arises. These newsletters contain valuable trading opportunities, market insights, and member highlights.

12. How can I submit my trading opportunities to be included in the newsletter?

If you have trading opportunities you’d like to share with the community, you can e-mail us at info@iomst.ie and/or  submit them through our website add a Market or Event, and our team will review and include them in the next available newsletter, our website and social media.

14. What are your business hours?

Our office opening hours are 10am – 5pm Monday to Friday (excl. Bank Holidays)

The office is generally closed over the Christmas & New Year break and also closed for annual leave on the 2nd and 3rd week in August each year.

15. Do you have a physical office or are you only online?

We do have a physical office based in Fairview, Dublin 3  and while we are always happy to have any members call into our office in person, we operate on an appointment-only basis, so please give us a call in advance to arrange a suitable time and date.

16. How long has your company been in business?

The Irish Organization for Market and Street Traders was originally founded in 1994 with the specific goal of providing support to the Irish market, event and street traders at a time when this area was undergoing dramatic changes, and traders needed a central point where they could gain access to the services they needed to cope with these changes.

In the years since, we have expanded our membership to include over a dozen additional categories and business descriptions

17. What sets your products or services apart from competitors?

As a membership organisation, you not only gain access to our amazing insurance packages you also get support help advice from IOMST who have many years experience working in both the market/event trading and insurance industries. As a small, family run business, you will also get a level of service and commitment from us that won’t be found elsewhere. Our end goal is to help our members succeed.

18. Do you offer any discounts or promotions?

As our membership insurance is group scheme based, our rates are already significantly below the market rate for comparable offerings.

We do however aim to provide the best value around and will aim to beat any competitors cost on a like for like basis.

In some cases, we can also facilitate short term membership allowing you to trial for up to six weeks without committing to a full years’ cost.
