Draft Casual Trading

ByeLaws for Kildare 2022

Kildare Council have new proposed ByeLaws for Kildare casual trading.

What does this mean for me?

Kildare County Council are introducing new bye-laws which allows them to manage the markets in Kildare and allocate new trading locations, which provides a great opportunity for traders in Kildare and its surrounds.

Currently there is an open market each Thursday in Kildare town which is currently unregulated. The council are looking to change this and provide some level of regulation to this market. As part of the proposals, they plan to be able to issue casual trading licences for pitches in the market which is not currently the case.

Traders will be able to apply for fixed pitches and will be charged a licence fee (proposed fee from €100.00 per annum) and they will also be required to provide liability insurance. The council are also proposing trading times of 08.00am to 14.00pm.

The council are also proposing to hold a night time market (17.30pm – 21.00pm) on Thursdays and a Sunday + Bank Holiday Monday market (10.00am –14.00pm) in the Town Square. While all trading opportunities are welcomed, we are conscious this may result over saturation of the trading environment in the town and believe more careful consideration of these proposals is required.
