Askea Country Market in Carlow town, County Carlow, has gone from strength to strength since its foundation in 2002. Every Friday 20 local producers gather in Askea Parish Centre from 10am-12 noon with their high quality, fresh, home made produce.
Foodstuffs on offer include gluten free and spelt bread, home baked cakes, breads and tarts, jams and chutneys, free range eggs and duck eggs, country butter, vegetables and fruits in season. All breads and confectionery are made the day before ensuring freshness.
Flowers and plants, homemade greeting cards and arts and crafts are also on sale.
A wonderful book “Country Market Favourites” with a foreword by Trevor Sargent T.D., Minister for Food and Horticulture is available at all markets throughout the country. The book also contains folklore, local history and household hints.
