New Indoor Food Market Proposed for Former Connacht Tribune Printworks, Galway
There is promising news for Galway’s food producers and small business community, with plans now lodged to transform the former Connacht Tribune printworks on Market Street into a new indoor food market. The proposal outlines a modern food hall designed to support local producers, street food traders and artisan makers in a central and historic location.
The planning application sets out a vision for a flexible indoor market that would feature a mix of permanent vendor units and smaller spaces for pop ups and seasonal traders. Early concept details suggest facilities for prepared food, produce and specialist food products, along with indoor seating for visitors. While the final layout has yet to be confirmed, the scale of the building offers significant potential for a varied mix of traders.
This redevelopment would not only breathe new life into a well known city centre site but could also create a valuable trading space for emerging and established food businesses. Details on timelines and stallholder applications have not yet been announced, but we will continue to follow the progress of the proposal and share updates as they become available.
If approved, this project could become an exciting new addition to Galway’s food and market scene, offering new opportunities for small businesses across the region.
