Casual Trading Update – New Bye-Laws Introduced in Clare

Traders in Clare, take note! Clare County Council has officially introduced new casual trading bye-laws, now in effect across all four Municipal Districts: Ennis, West Clare, Shannon, and Killaloe. These updates aim to provide consistency across the county, with clearer rules, designated trading zones, and updated permit fees.

Whether you’re a long-time trader or just starting out, it’s worth familiarising yourself with the changes to ensure your trading activity remains compliant and smooth.

What’s Included in the New Bye-Laws?

Standardised Licence Requirements
All casual traders must now apply under the new structure, with the same rules applying across the county.

Designated Trading Zones
Specific areas have been mapped for legal trading in each district. This helps manage traffic, safety, and the experience for both traders and the public.

Updated Permit Fees
Licence costs have been revised. For example:

Ennis: €330 to €660 per bay, depending on location.

Other districts: €400 per bay, with special rates for certain events or seasonal trading.

Clearer Enforcement
The new bye-laws also improve clarity around what’s allowed—and what’s not—making it easier to trade confidently and legally.

Where Can You Trade?

Designated areas include (but are not limited to):

  • Ennis: Including Ballyallia Lake and the new Ennis Market facility
  • West Clare: Ennistymon, Kilkee, Miltown Malbay
  • Killaloe MD: Killaloe town, Tulla
  • Shannon MD: Shannon Town and surrounds
  • Tourist Spots: Doolin Pier, Fanore, Kilfenora
