New Themed Markets: College Green, Meeting House & Portobello Harbour

Dublin City Council has proposed the introduction of themed trading zones in several high-profile areas, including College Green, Meeting House Square, and Portobello Harbour. These initiatives aim to enhance the city’s public realm and provide new opportunities for traders.

What’s Happening?

The draft regulation plan suggests adding new market areas and adjusting existing ones to support outdoor city life and ensure modern, legally compliant trading.

  • College Green: Plans are underway to transform College Green into a pedestrian-friendly civic space, with potential for market activities. However, the project is facing delays, with completion unlikely before the end of the decade .
  • Meeting House Square: This area is being considered for themed markets, building on its existing use as a venue for events and gatherings.
  • Portobello Harbour: The council is exploring the development of this area into a new park, which could include space for markets and community activities .

What Does This Mean for Traders?

These proposed changes could open up new opportunities for traders to operate in high-traffic, vibrant areas. However, as these plans are still in the early stages, it’s important for traders to stay informed and engaged with the consultation process to ensure their interests are represented.
