Kerry Artisan Food Group is a new organisation formed to support top quality, small, artisan, food producers in advancing their businesses.
The group has been awarded the Ruralbiz award for best Collective Enterprise at the 2014 awards held in the N.E.K.D. Tralee this November.
The group has set up its first market at Keane’s SuperValu Killorglin which will be held year round on Thursdays 11am to 4pm with extra days for events.
The group will be involved in pop-up markets, events, festivals, trade fairs, wholesale tasting events, up-scaling, sourcing ingredients, wholesale and exports to name some activities.
The group aims to tackle obstacles in the way of small food businesses progressing. One such challenge is that excellent Irish produce is getting missed in over crowded markets, often full of over priced, poor quality produce. The groups members are hand picked based on their product and their business. There is no open market struture, quality is the priority. Many of the producers have local, national and even international awards yet are still operating at market level, one to one with the customer. This produce should be household names we are bursting with pride to buy.
The weekly market in Killorglin is a great place for tourists and visitors to come, and try some of the best food Ireland has to offer, being located on both the world famous, breathtaking Ring of Kerry and Wild Atlantic Way.
